TOBY PRICE IS HAULIN’ AT DAKAR!
Hats off to Toby Price! On only the second stage of his first Dakar Rally, the Aussie has already bagged a top five result. Is there no end to this guy’s talents?
About three months ago Price had yet to compete in a rally but that didn’t faze him at the Rally of Morocco where he claimed some impressive results. A couple of weeks later he flew out to the ISDE in Argentina and went head-to-head with none other than Pela Renet for the overall win. And then to cap off his 2014 season he was top dog at the Day In The Dirt at Glen Helen.
Still learning the art of road book navigation, Price placed fifth on stage two – the longest stage of this year’s Dakar at some 500km long – to place fifth overall in the race.
Here’s what he had to say about the stage…
“Today was a good day for me! We got through the first 300km really well at a fast pace, the navigation wasn’t too hard but you still had to really stay on top of your road book. Beyond the 300km point I made a small mistake trying to pass another rider when I thought I might have missed a waypoint and found myself back where I turned around, to be honest it was all over the shop!
“It just goes to show how much experience you need to master this crazy race. Today was incredibly hot in the sand dunes and we all got cooked, other than that it was all good and I’m extremely happy to be sitting in 5th position after stage 2.”
Keep up the good work Toby!
