THE RISE, FALL & RISE AGAIN OF ALFREDO GOMEZ?
In fairness it’s been a very torrid season of racing for Husqvarna’s Alfredo Gomez. Ending 2013 as one of the rising stars of Hard Enduro, the Spaniard has been met with mostly illness and injury for the majority of 2014.
Back in late January it all started to go wrong for Gomez when he became sidelined with appendicitis. Literally knocking him for six, he was forced to sit out the first major Hard Enduro event of the year – Hell’s Gate.
Returning for The Tough One, things appeared to get back on track for him with a fine third place result behind David Knight and Jonny Walker, while also beating his teammate Graham Jarvis in the process.
Backing that up with fourth at the Red Bull Hare Scramble at Erzberg and shortly afterwards third at the Piatra Neamt, it was clear that Gomez was back up to full speed and ready to equal or better his runner-up result from Red Bull Romaniacs 2013.

Unfortunately, things then took a massive turn for the worst when he was the innocent victim of a head on collision at a Spanish extreme enduro race. A broken foot just days before Romaniacs put any podium aspirations on hold.
In what seems like an eternity, Gomez finally returns to Hard Enduro competition this weekend. Third overall at the Red Bull Sea to Sky in 2013, can the Husqvarna rider use this race to put to rest what’s been a rather hit and miss season?
If one thing’s for sure, having him back on the list is definitely going to make things very interesting indeed…
