IT’S TIME FOR THE ROOF OF AFRICA!
It’s that time of year again – a race that puts fear into grown men. Are you ready for the Roof of Africa?
Closing out an epic season of Hard Enduro action with the ‘Mother of all Hard Enduro’, the Roof of Africa takes place in Lesotho this weekend.
Back to defend his crown, Graham Jarvis will be looking to cap off his year with nothing less than victory. Jarvis was simply stunning in last year’s Roof. With mixed weather conditions making the course a mission to finish for most, Jarvis turned on the style on the final day of racing to take the win by almost one hour from Chris Birch.
Unfortunately Birch isn’t in South Africa to challenge Jarvis, but 2012 winner Wade Young is. An early retirement during last year’s race, Young has his sights set on returning to the top step of the podium.
2014 has been an incredible year of racing for the 18-year-old South African. His year highlights coming with a podium result at the Red Bull Romaniacs, fourth at the Red Bull Sea to Sky and a win at the Ukupacha Extreme in Ecuador. Now – with home advantage on his side – a race win is surely on the cards for him.
Andreas Lettenbichler is an old hand at racing at the Roof of Africa and has both the experience and speed to give both Jarvis and Young a serious challenge.
Seventeen-year-old South African Travis Teasdale delivered a belter of a ride at the Sea to Sky and will be out to better that this time around in Lesotho.
Altus de Wet is another rider to watch out for. His Roof didn’t go to plan in 2013 but has since produced strong rides at Erzberg and Romaniacs. He’s one to watch for a podium result.
Blake Gutzeit – a rider on top form – Scott Bouverie – third in 2013 – plus Kenny Gilbert are all keen to make life very hard indeed for Jarvis.
