HIGHLIGHTS – ENDUROCROSS SALT LAKE CITY
Rolling on to Salt Lake City for round six of the series, the AMA EnduroCross Championship delivered yet another night of unpredictable action.
Just seven days after Colton Haaker put his Honda on the top step of the podium, all eyes were on Haaker to see if he could win again. But on a track that was anything but easy – were staying out of trouble was key – it was Beta’s Cody Webb who produced the goods.
Winning the 15-lap final and also bagging two extra points for topping the Hot Lap time sheets and his heat race, Webb is now the new leader of the championship and will wear the red plate heading into Everett this weekend.
“Getting my second win of the season was awesome,” said Cody Webb. “It was our first time racing in Salt Lake City and it was a cool. The track had super short lap times and looked very simple during the morning qualifiers. But when water was thrown on the track, it changed everything – it got super slick.
“I won my heat race and evening hot laps to gain two extra championship points. I rode smart and consistent in the main event and I just felt the flow on the course. I was also happy to come out of the race with the championship lead heading into Everett next weekend.”
Repeating his runner-up result from the previous week in Denver, Taddy Blazusiak overcame numerous mistakes to bring his KTM home in second.
“I made mistakes but then towards the end of the race I got my rhythm going again and started working on the guys. In the end, I am happy with second,” told Blazusiak.
Grabbing his first podium result of the series with third, Taylor Robert is beginning to put his slow start to the season behind him…
“I feel like I’m getting back to 100%. It was cool to battle for the top spots again.”
Regrouping after a crash on the first corner, Haaker fought his way back to fifth behind Mike Brown.
