FIRST LOOK – THE RESURRECTION OF SWM

Once a key player in motorcycle manufacturing during the seventies, the Italian brand is seeing a resurrection with six new models both on-road and off-road.

Making the announcement during this week’s ECIMA show in Milan, SWM are back on the market by introducing six street and off-road bikes with engine size between 300 and 650cc.

In the early seventies SWM – Speedy Working Motors – was established in Italy and gained success in motocross, trials and enduro with three models – 50, 100 and 125cc engines.

Now SWM are back with new investment in a partnership between Ampelio Macchi and Daxing Gong. As technical manager, Italian Macchi has worked with Cagiva, Husqvarna and Aprilia obtaining 45 world titles with Husqvarna and five with Aprilia. Daxing Gong is the Chinese businessman of the Shineray Group. With Macchi’s love of Italian styling and Gong’s business knowledge the duo hope to drive SWM forward – first in Europe, then Australia and South America before expanding into Asia and North America once proper homologation has been achieved.

The SWM is available in two enduro models – RS300R and RS500R – and appear to be heavily based on the old Husqvarna range of motorcycles…
