DAILY DIARY – 2015 ERZBERGRODEO FRIDAY
Let the good times roll! Erzberg 2015 is alive. One day into the greatest festival of enduro action and we’ve been blessed with glorious sunshine and roasting hot temperatures.
Riders also got the opportunity to stretch those throttle cables for a hair raising blast up the Iron Road Prologue.
After a couple of years of bad weather that reached biblical proportions, we’re gladly indulging in this moment…
#2 on his bike but #1 on his back. The King of Extreme Enduro wants his Red Bull Hare Scramble crown back. Graham Jarvis is quietly confident about his chances.
An old familiar face with a fresh look in new pastures. Our Swedish buddy Joakim Ljunggren is testing out the extreme enduro waters with Erzberg. Now on a KTM, the former EWC Junior world champ is both excited and nervous for Sunday on his 350 EXC-F.
South African Altus De Wet had a rather shitty start to his 2015 ErzbergRodeo when thieving scum broke into his truck and stole his Sherco. Thankfully help was quickly at hand and he was loaned a bike to race.
Bikes and beer – two things associate with Erzberg. This guy went the extra mile and put them into one complete package. Now that’s thinking outside the box.
If ever you needed an incentive to go faster! AVG helmets are offering €1000 for the fastest amateur rider up the prologue. And there’s some 2016 helmet sponsorship thrown in for good measure. Nice one!
As the reigning Erzberg champ, Jonny Walker was the first rider to hurtle his way up the Iron Road Prologue. You’ll be glad to know that he was holding back.
Mind the edge. The Iron Giant is no place for brake or brain fade.
Generally you don’t have to spend too searching for a water splash in Erzberg but with the incredibly hot weather we’re experiencing, they’re so far in short supply. Trekking the length and breath of the prologue, we managed to find enough of a puddle to capture that obligatory Erzberg water splash.
There’s only one way to get around this great big lump of rock fast and that’s with a guide and Arctic Cat buggy. Our new mate Dave knows the hot spots.
1500 competitors tend to take up a lot of parking space.
Just married! Yes, you read that right. We came for the enduro but also got to witness a wedding. In the middle of the media room, this happy couple celebrated their first dance complete with brass brand. Only in Erzberg!
FMX legend Robbie Maddison is in town to sample a piece of Erzberg life. He’s not competing Sunday due to a busted knee but has seen enough to make him schedule a return for 2016.
