ALFREDO GOMEZ WINS VALONGO EXTREME
Husqvarna’s Alfredo Gomez battled his way through pretty much every type of terrain imaginable to win the Valongo Extreme
Marking round two of the FIME Europe Extreme Enduro Cup, Valongo in Portugal saw Alfredo Gomez and Mario Roman go head to head for top honours.
Kicking things off, organisers built the wettest prologue ever seen, when riders faced an early bath in the town centre pond. In conditions more suited to a jet ski, Alfredo Gomez set the tone for the rest of the race by narrowly beating Roman to the fastest time.
Leading the field of riders out for the main event, Gomez tried to break away but it was soon clear that Roman wasn’t going to let him escape.
For three hours, the duo set a blisteringly fast pace that was unmatched. Roman grabbed the lead after lap one but on the final lap he lost it again when he got bogged down in a deep water hole.
Gladly inheriting the lead, Gomez hung on to win as Roman regrouped and took second.
One lap behind the leaders, Henrique Nogueira (KTM) completed the top three.
Paulo Russo deserves a honourable mention for bringing his AJP home in fourth, finishing just one minute off the podium.
